A 27-year-old maxi taxi driver from Chaguanas has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a Licensing Authority officer along the Southern Main Road in Curepe.
Police said the incident occurred around 10:30am on Monday, when the officer was assaulted by the driver of a green-band maxi taxi near the East Grove Housing Development.
The driver reportedly punched the officer twice in the face, then pursued the Licensing Authority vehicle with a wheel spanner.
Later on Monday, officers said they conducted enquiries and proceeded to the Caroni Licensing Office, where the suspect was identified and arrested for the offence.
Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the St. Joseph Police Station as investigations continue.
