31 Parents Graduate From Parenting Skills Workshop In Tobago

Thirty-one parents in Tobago are now better equipped to guide and support their children while working toward a more cohesive family dynamic.

This follows the Division of Community Development’s Social Protection Department’s Parenting and Co-Parenting Skills Workshop.

Participants received training in positive communication, conflict resolution, civil dialogue, and boundary setting.

Speaking at the brief graduation ceremony, THA Secretary of Community Development and Social Protection, Ian Pollard, urged the participants to apply the tools gained in their daily lives.

“We recognise that children benefit most when parents work together even when they are apart. Consistency and stability are the greatest gift you can give a child. Your certificate is more than a record of attendance: it is a commission. I charge you today to be ambassadors for the families in your villages and communities”

Both Secretary Pollard and Assistant Secretary Ackel Franklyn commended the participation of male parents in the programme.

Mr. Franklyn praised the group for their commitment to investing in their children’s future.

“I saw a group of people committed to making that impact. I saw a group of people making up their minds that in spite of the indifferences, we have something common. We want the best interest for this child. In a time where society, the values and morals are dwindling. In a time where I sure for today if you go on social media we see about 15 different fights. In a time where so much is happening in our space, I see a group of people who understands that we brought this child here.”

The Children’s Authority was also part of the initiative. Tobago Manager Lynette Bacchus applauded both organisers and participants, noting that the Authority continues to place strong emphasis on supporting families and strengthening parenting practices.
