A ball-tampering controversy has overshadowed a dramatic Pakistan Super League match after Lahore Qalandars were penalised during their defeat to Karachi Kings.
With Karachi needing fourteen off the final over, umpires ruled Pakistan international Fakhar Zaman had illegally altered the condition of the ball, awarding the Kings five penalty runs.
Fakhar, who has played more than 200 times for Pakistan, denies any wrongdoing. A hearing held immediately after the match was adjourned until Monday.
The ball was also replaced at the batting side’s request, and Kings, needing just nine runs from six balls, completed victory with three balls to spare.
Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi said he was unaware of the incident and that the team would review the footage.
Karachi was captained by Australian David Warner, who himself was banned for twelve months in 2018 for his role in a ball-tampering scandal.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet commented on the incident.
