Sport Minister Extends Condolences After Cyclist Colin Wilson Dies In Tragic Accident

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, has extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire cycling fraternity following the tragic passing of former national cyclist Colin “Creepy” Wilson on Friday.

According to a statement from the Ministry, Mr. Wilson was competing in a six-lap Masters 40–49 event at Skinner Park when he attempted to avoid a fallen cyclist. In doing so, he collided with the fencing lining the track and sustained critical neck injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred on the opening day of the three-day 2026 Easter International Cycling Grand Prix, held in conjunction with the Caribbean Cycling Championships and the American Track Cycling Championships at Skinner Park in San Fernando.

Minister Watts, who reached out to Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation President Rowena Williams to express his condolences, stated: “Colin ‘Creepy’ Wilson was more than a champion cyclist, he was a pioneer who inspired generations of young athletes in Trinidad and Tobago. His passion for the sport and steadfast commitment to excellence will forever be remembered. This is a profound loss for our sporting community, and my heart goes out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs stated that it stands in solidarity with the cycling community during this time of profound grief and extends heartfelt support to all those affected by this tragic loss.
