PM: Discussions Ongoing On ‘Jet Ski’ Regulation

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has assured that the Government is in ongoing consultations with the Tobago House of Assembly on the regulation of jet skis and other pleasure craft.

Responding to a question in the Lower House on Friday, the Prime Minister extended her condolences to the family of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie, who died on April 8th when a jet ski ploughed into her and members of her family while they were bathing at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park.

The Prime Minister also pointed to legislative inaction by the former administration, saying opportunities to prevent such incidents had long existed but were not acted upon.

“Firstly, let me say on behalf of the Government of T&T, I offer condolences to the loved ones of young Angelica Sadie Jogie. The Government is in constant communication with the THA regarding measures to address these matters, and more will be said in the future, so we are in consultation. May I say that I am advised and reminded that there was a Bill in 2020 that would have helped to address matters such as these, but those on the other side sat on that Bill for 10 years or more from 2020 right down until last year and never acted on that Bill. So we are in discussions and in consultations to deal with these kinds of matters.”
