Joining the wave of 5K runs across the country, UWI-ROYTEC hosted its “Stepping to Success” event. Participants wore their blue and white shirts to support the initiative, which aims to provide scholarships for students in need.
Participants took to the streets of Port of Spain on Sunday morning for the inaugural “Stepping to Success” 5K run by UWI-ROYTEC.
Students Services Director at the institution, Ayanna Antoine, explained the purpose behind the run.
“It’s our Stepping to Success 5K and this 5K is in aid of our student scholarships. Even though our students tend to get subventions from the Trinidad and Tobago government, some of them still struggle financially. This initiative is to build that fund.”
She added that this also extends towards ensuring fun and healthier habits among students.
“In addition to education and scholarships, we believe that we want our students to be healthier, and we will continue to do that, so finally, it’s just a matter of us continuing to support education and continuing to support a better Trinidad and Tobago.”
All proceeds from the run go directly toward student scholarships.
