Several people have been detained in connection with the quadruple murder that occurred at Lady Young Road in Morvant on Sunday night.
This is according to Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, while responding to a question in the Senate on Tuesday, where he also addressed concerns about possible retaliatory violence.
He said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has already taken decisive action to stabilise the area.
“The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has taken immediate decisions and action. Several persons have already been detained in connection with the matter. To specifically address the risk of reprisal, specialised units have been deployed to the area. We are maintaining peace through active, intelligence-led patrols and heightened surveillance within the community.”
Among those killed in Sunday’s incident was eight-year-old J’Layna Armstrong. Reports indicate she was travelling in a vehicle with two men and a woman when gunmen opened fire, unleashing a barrage of shots at around 7:45pm. All four occupants died at the scene. Police have not yet identified a motive for the attack.
