Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, has confirmed that Government is moving ahead with the restoration of the Sangre Grande Post Office, which commenced under the previous administration.

“The Ministry of Public Utilities is working closely with the Ministry of Finance for funding to facilitate contractor mobilization and the provision of advanced payments. These funds will also address outstanding procurement related expenses incurred during fiscal 2025.”

The Minister noted that an additional $4 million will be sought to keep construction moving once work resumes.

“The project which carries the duration of 9 months is anticipated to commence in May to June 2026. Further demonstrating its priority status, an additional 4 million will be sought at the appropriate time to sustain construction progress with the remaining balance to be secured in fiscal year 2027.”

“The Ministry of Public Utilities was left with mounting debt, it was left with areas that were unaddressed particularly in the area of water and therefore what we have had to do is take a look at reallocating some of what was initially appropriated and therefore prioritize things that were directly impacting people in their homes and people in their pockets.”
