The Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force marked its 116th anniversary on May 1st with a message of recognition from Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge, who highlighted the organisation’s longstanding role in national development.
In a statement, Minister Sturge said the Cadet Force has, for more than a century, contributed to shaping generations of young people.
He said it instils discipline, leadership, resilience and a sense of national duty.
He noted that many former cadets have gone on to serve in the protective services, the public sector and other areas of national life, including the Parliament.
The minister said that in an increasingly complex global environment, a country’s strength depends not only on its capabilities but also on the character and preparedness of its citizens.
According to Minister Sturge, the Ministry of Defence views the organisation as an important partner in nation-building, providing structured training, mentorship and opportunities for young people to contribute to national development.
