Tobago East MP David Thomas Marks First Year In Office With Health Fair For Senior Citizens

Member of Parliament for Tobago East, David Thomas, marked his first year in office by giving back to the senior citizens of his constituency.

On Thursday, he hosted a health fair at the Cyd Gray Complex in Roxborough, where senior citizens were treated to general health check-ups and a day of light-hearted engagement.

The Tobago East MP said he remains grateful for the confidence placed in him by constituents one year ago. To commemorate the milestone, he decided to bring essential health services directly to senior citizens in his constituency.

He told TTT News, “Celebration is not only festivity, but celebration is gratitude and giving back and I have a special place in my heart for the senior citizens of this country.”

With assistance from the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA), he said senior citizens were treated to a variety of services, including general testing.

“Blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, we doing HIV. We supposed to have the eye specialist and them here but for some reason they are not here yet, but we still anticipate that they will come. We doing dental as well. Besides that we have a nutritionist on board, who can guide them in the steps to maintain good nutrition.”

Senior citizens also had the opportunity to receive flu shots and tetanus injections — a service warmly welcomed by those who attended.

One constituent, Harriett Job-Dick, said: “I am a health freak. I love staying healthy, doing things that are healthy, exercising and so on. So when I heard about it, I thought that I should come down.”

Another constituent, Mr. Whiteman, said, “I check my cholesterol and my blood pressure, everything, everything else, and they were good. And I take a tetanus injection, so it was pretty alright.”

Some constituents also shared their thoughts on MP Thomas’ performance in his first year.

Ms. Sylvia Sargent said, “It is okay. I still giving him time because he still have a lot of work to do, and I don’t expect all to do in one day or in four years because God took six days to create, and man does feel they could do it in one day, and it doesn’t happen so.”

Mr. Whiteman stated, “It have things that I never see and hear about, and we seeing them now, which should have been happening, but then, I mean, we have to wait we turn. If this is your turn, thank God for it.”

Mr. Keith Elliot shared, “For now, I believe he is doing a good job. As my friend said here, you have to give them time. It is one year, so let us watch and see what is going to take place in the other year coming up.”

And Ms. Job-Dick shared, “Well, it is a programme in progress. So it is now starting, and I think that the expectations are great, and so far we seeing things working so far.”

MP Thomas remained on site throughout the day, engaging with seniors and ensuring they were well taken care of.
