The Guardian Group has made a significant contribution to education recovery efforts in western Jamaica, presenting a TTD$100,000 — equivalent to J$2.3 million — cheque to support schools affected by Hurricane Melissa. The handover ceremony took place on 16th April 2026 at Guardian Life Limited in Jamaica.
The donation forms part of the proceeds raised through the SHINE 2025 Charity Walk/Run, held in Trinidad and Tobago, which collectively raised over TT$780,000 in support of children and children’s charities across the region.
The allocation to Jamaica reflects what Guardian Group describes as a deliberate, regionally coordinated approach to recovery — one that prioritises stabilising learning environments and building long-term community resilience.
The contribution will be disbursed through the National Education Trust (NET), in partnership with Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information. The funds are earmarked to address critical operational gaps in affected schools, including:
- Access to learning materials through shared photocopying services
- Provision of generators to restore reliable electricity
- Minor infrastructural repairs to schools impacted by the storm
Priority institutions include Frome Technical High School and other schools within its cluster.
Speaking at the cheque handover, Group Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of the Guardian Group Foundation, Greer Quan, framed the donation as a practical act of regional solidarity.
“This donation is about standing with Jamaica’s communities as they recover and rebuild. Through SHINE, we are proud to contribute J$2.3 million to support schools in restoring safe and functional learning environments. These are practical interventions that will make a meaningful difference for students and teachers,” Quan said.
