A prison officer has been placed under a Preventative Detention Order following his arrest on suspicion of facilitating the introduction of prohibited items into a correctional facility.
The prison officer, who is attached to the Port of Spain Prison, was arrested on May 1st, 2026, while on duty after officers conducted a search of his locker and discovered several prohibited articles.
The officer had reportedly been under surveillance based on intelligence suggesting his involvement in facilitating the transfer of prohibited items to inmates allegedly coordinating serious criminal activities from within the prison system.
The exercise was coordinated by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, Commissioner of Prisons Carlos Corrapse, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin.
Investigations remain ongoing.
