From Trinidad and Tobago to London’s West End, local talent continues to break boundaries and defy the odds.
This is exemplified by homegrown talent Tramaine Lamy-Westcarr, who transformed her passion for the musical arts into an international career as she spent the past 14 years gracing the stage in Disney’s acclaimed live-action production of The Lion King.
However, the actress’s journey is just beginning. She noted that her next step beyond The Lion King is to invest in Trinidad and Tobago’s local performing arts industry.
“I think that Trinidad and Tobago and, by extension, the entire region has such great talent to offer the entire world. We know this, right? For years now, we know this for years but I think I would definitely like to invest more in Trinidad’s arts industry, and I want to come back, and I want to open a school. I mean, this is from my mouth to God’s ears for younger performers to help form them, to help instil some qualities that they can build on when they go out into the wider world.”
For those considering a future in musical theatre, Ms. Lamy-Westcarr offered valuable advice and insights drawn from her own journey.
“I would say get into a class, you know? Hone your craft, really finesse and refine that natural talent that God has given you, and then go out and audition, you know. I remember as a young girl I went to New York and auditioned and realised how much I didn’t know, so you don’t know how much you don’t know until you don’t know it, right?”
