THA Hopes For $60M To Construct Scarborough Secondary

As the Minister of Finance prepares to present the mid-year budget review today, Friday, the Tobago House of Assembly is hoping to receive funding to begin construction of the Scarborough Secondary School. Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, revealed they would need $60 million to get the project started.

The move comes as the decades-old institution continues to face long-standing structural issues, including coastal erosion and years of repeated repairs, raising concerns about its safety and sustainability.

“The ask is for about $60 million for Scarborough Secondary, that’s a build project, so in other words we not looking to use to modality of the design-build-finance, where we pay a mobilization of about 30%.”

Augustine explained that the THA is still finalizing designs of the new school, but is hoping that with the appropriate funding, construction can begin within a few months.

“In the first week in June, we have identified the first week in June for consultations with the end users, this will be final consultations on the design, by the end of June, and then we go back out to tender on the approved designs.”
