Seven Detained As Search Continues For Missing Tobago Toddler Angelo Tobias

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has advised that seven persons have been detained as investigations continue into the disappearance of two-year-old Angelo Tobias of Goodwood, Tobago.

In a statement on Tuesday, the TTPS said searches conducted at the Mt. St. George dump and Dam Road areas have “resulted in nothing of evidential value being found.”

It further stated that searches in the Pig Farm Road district will continue on Tuesday, and personnel of the Cyber Unit have been tasked with analysing electronic devices seized as part of the investigations.

Little Angelo was reported missing from his Goodwood home at around 7:30pm on Monday, May 11th. Initial reports suggested that the child had wandered away from the house and into the sea. However, extensive searches of the area, which were hampered by rough sea conditions, yielded no results. By the weekend, investigators shifted their focus from Goodwood to the Mt. St. George landfill.

The TTPS said the investigation remains a multi-agency effort, comprising officers of the Special Victims Department, the Tobago Division Gang Unit, the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, the Tobago Divisional Task Force, the Canine Unit and the Criminal Records Office, with assistance from the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.

It reiterated that this is a highly sensitive and active investigation and that it remains committed to conducting its work with the utmost professionalism, fairness, and respect for the constitutional rights of all parties involved.

It also assured the public that further updates will be provided as information becomes available and can be appropriately disclosed.

The TTPS again appealed to the public for information that may assist in locating Angelo Tobias. Persons can contact the Scarborough Police Station at 639-1200, or call 555, 800-TIPS, or Tobago 211.
