Six Women Among Eight New UWI Professors

The University of the West Indies has promoted eight senior lecturers to the rank of professor, with six women among the newly appointed academics.

The appointments, which took effect on March 12th, recognise excellence across a range of disciplines, including psychology, applied mathematics and others.

Among those elevated from the St. Augustine Campus are Professors Jeannine Remy, Karla Georges, Theodor Tudoroiu and Preeya Mohan.

The UWI says the appointments reflect significant contributions, with research spanning areas such as dementia, climate finance policy and the advancement of the steelpan as a scholarly field.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nelleen Baboolal was also granted a retroactive promotion to Professor of Psychiatry, effective May 2023, prior to her retirement later that year.
