The Public Transportation Service Corporation (PTSC) says it was prepared for this week’s transport disruption, having put contingency measures in place before reduced maxi-taxi services affected commuters.
PTSC General Manager Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Patrick Gomez says the Corporation moved quickly to strengthen its fleet operations, particularly along the East West Corridor, where commuter traffic has been heaviest.
“Yesterday, Monday, it was extremely high, obviously. This morning it seemed a little bit lower, but the demand was higher than normal than we have had for the last couple of weeks. So yesterday we had a very high demand for the services.”
Mr. Gomez says the Corporation has ramped up operations, with staff working around the clock to keep buses on the road as passenger numbers rise.
He adds that existing continuity plans were refined ahead of the service reductions. The PTSC will continue to monitor commuter demand and deploy resources where necessary to minimise disruption.
“We have a business continuity plan that we have to respond to a number of scenarios. So we just augmented the plan.”
PTSC says it remains on heightened alert as the transport disruption continues, maintaining that buses will remain available to help ease pressure on affected commuters in the days ahead.
