After recording a dominant victory in their opening Second Division match of the Lincoln “Cripple” Griffith North Zone Basketball League, the Caledonia Clippers looked to make it two in a row.

In their way was Royalty Basketball Academy, who were looking to bounce back after defeat in their previous match.

Akile Painter got fouled heading to the rim and opened the scoring from the line.

Royalty would eventually get going. A strong attacking display saw Marcus Young taking the contact, turning, and finding the net.

It would go on to be an even first quarter, but the men in yellow, Royalty, were brave going forward and were rewarded with a two-point lead at the interval.

Caledonia would turn things around in the second quarter as they powered their way to a 54-31 lead at half-time.

Painter didn’t stop his scoring efforts in the third, and neither did the rest of Caledonia, who dominated, scoring an impressive 45 points in the period.

Up 83-38, Akile Painter found himself at the centre of controversy when he seemed to have swung an elbow at Kobe Solomon.

That turned into a confrontation between Painter and Royalty coach Cleveland King. That ultimately resulted in the head coach being ejected from the arena.

Caledonia Clippers would not be derailed. Painter top-scoring with 17 points as they went on to win the match 97-51.
