THA Sets June Dates For 2026 Budget Presentation And Debate

The Tobago House of Assembly will present its annual budget on Monday, June 22nd, 2026, with the debate scheduled for Thursday, June 25th, 2026.

The announcement was made by THA Secretary of Finance, Trade and the Economy, Petal-Ann Roberts.

According to the THA Act 40 of 1996, the Assembly is required to prepare and present its budget for the next financial year before the end of June annually.

Speaking at the weekly Post-Executive Media Briefing on Friday, Secretary Roberts explained that the budget will be presented against the backdrop of the “Pathway for Prosperity: Blueprint for Tobago 2026 to 2030”, which is part of a larger 20-year development plan.

“Rather than relying on traditional, purely economic factors, the blueprint produces a human-centred development philosophy and balances social progress with cultural preservation, economic diversification and environmental integrity.”

The budget will include plans for sustainable tourism, climate resilience and climate adaptation, improvement in public infrastructure and more.

Secretary Roberts added that it will also address funding to build new divisions, as the THA prepares for additional powers to be granted by the Parliament soon.

“In order to build that pathway to prosperity, we had to design the institutional framework of the Tobago House of Assembly to include self governance going forward, especially within the next four years.”

Secretary Roberts stated that submissions made online and during consultations with various stakeholders will be taken into consideration for the budget.

For fiscal 2026, the Central Government granted the THA a budget of $3.72 billion, of which $2.742 billion was designated for recurrent expenditure and $201.5 million for development funding.
