Stolen Monstrances Returned To St Mary’s RC Church

The two monstrances stolen by an intruder on Tuesday, June 2, from the St Mary’s RC Church, St James have been returned.

On Thursday morning as parishioners arrived for 6.15 a.m. Mass, they discovered a black bag on the steps of the church and upon opening it, discovered the monstrances which were taken in a robbery days before the June 4 Corpus Christi observance. Also left was $100 and a note. Parish priest Fr Emmanuel Pierre contacted the investigating officer from the St James Criminal Investigation Division.

The monstrances—a large and small, had a total value of $15,000.

Parishioners were joyful and thanking God that the monstrances, used to contain the Host, the Body of Christ, and for Eucharistic Adoration were back.
