The Caroni Bird Sanctuary is one of this country’s most important ecological treasures.
Best known as the evening roosting site of the brilliant Scarlet Ibis, the protected wetlands draw visitors from around the world hoping to witness the spectacle of hundreds of crimson birds returning home at dusk.
But beyond that iconic moment, the sanctuary holds far more: a vast network of mangrove forest, wildlife, and views that can only be experienced from deep within the swamp itself.
Khary Roberts takes us on a Caroni tour for this instalment of Right Here.
