Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Phillip Alexander, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving housing conditions following a site visit to the Marcano Quarry Lands, also known as “Canada,” in Laventille.
Accompanied by officials from the Housing Development Corporation, the minister assessed the deteriorating conditions facing residents as part of the Ministry’s ongoing programme of field inspections aimed at identifying communities in urgent need of intervention.
The visit follows a similar assessment conducted three months ago at the HDC development on Nelson and George Streets in Port of Spain, reflecting the Ministry’s continued effort to evaluate housing communities across the country and accelerate the delivery of housing solutions.
Minister Alexander said the visit was carried out under a directive from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to ensure more citizens have access to safe and dignified housing. He said firsthand assessments allow the Government to better understand residents’ needs and take timely action.
The Marcano Quarry Lands development is one of the HDC’s recognized residential communities in Laventille. The Ministry says it will continue working closely with residents throughout the assessment process and will provide updates as decisions on the future of the development are made.
