Galleons Passage Departs With Relief Supplies For Venezuela

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC on Wednesday evening inspected humanitarian aid heading to Venezuela aboard the Galleons Passage.

The vessel departed at noon on Thursday carrying 331 pallets of relief supplies, including water, food items, canned goods, juice, soft drinks, mattresses, hygiene products, cleaning supplies and medical supplies to assist victims of the twin earthquakes that devastated the country in June.

During her visit to the vessel ahead of its departure, the Prime Minister viewed the cargo and thanked the crew and agencies involved in the humanitarian operation.

According to the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, teams at the Port of Point Lisas (PLIPDECO) worked through the night to load the shipment, with support from vessel personnel, port workers, NIDCO, Customs and Excise, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and other State agencies.

The Authority said the mission reflects a joint effort by the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago to support Venezuela as it continues its recovery efforts following the deadly earthquakes.

The Port Authority said it was proud to support the humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering critical relief supplies to the affected communities.

The Galleons Passage is expected to arrive in Venezuela on Friday morning.
