T&T Strengthens National Cyber Resilience By Joining Latin America And Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has become the 20th member of LAC4, the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre. The country’s membership was formalized recently by the Minister of Homeland Security. The Ministry of Homeland Security will serve as the host institution for Trinidad and Tobago’s membership in LAC4.

LAC4 is the cybersecurity and training hub for Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in the Dominican Republic, it is a hybrid training facility funded by the European Union and implemented by the Estonian Information System Authority to strengthen the region’s capacity to combat cybercrime. Membership in LAC4 would support Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation and enhance its national cyber resilience, while enabling closer collaboration on cybersecurity with regional partners and the European Union.

“Liina Areng, LAC4 Director, stated: “We are pleased to welcome Trinidad and Tobago to LAC4. In recent years, the country has demonstrated strong leadership in advancing its digital transformation agenda and strengthening its cybersecurity ecosystem, making it a valuable addition to our regional network. This partnership also opens new opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago to access expertise and participate in joint initiatives. Bringing together diverse experiences and fostering practical cooperation enhances cyber resilience across Latin America and the Caribbean.

European Union Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, H.E. Cécile Tassin congratulated Trinidad and Tobago on joining the initiative and further stated: “Trinidad and Tobago’s accession to LAC4 is more than a milestone, it is a clear commitment to stronger cyber resilience, deeper regional cooperation and a modern digital future. The European Union is proud to support this momentum, including through the Global Gateway vision of trusted and people-centered digital partnerships.

Minister of Homeland Security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Roger Alexander commented that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening national cybersecurity resilience and advancing regional cooperation in addressing emerging cyber threats. He further stated: “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with LAC4 in promoting cybersecurity capacity building, policy development, cyber incident response coordination and the exchange of knowledge and best practices across the region. We are confident that this partnership will contribute meaningfully to strengthening regional cybersecurity cooperation and fostering a more secure, resilient and trusted digital environment throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.”
