Dr. the Honourable David A. Lee, Minister of Housing, today formally appointed the Chairman and Members of the Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Committee (SILWC) at an Appointment Ceremony held at the Ministry’s Head Office.
Addressing the newly appointed Committee, Minister Lee underscored the continued importance of SILWC and the responsibility entrusted to its Chairman and Members. He expressed confidence that, through their commitment, expertise and collaboration, the Committee would strengthen SILWC and advance the welfare of its beneficiaries.
Congratulating the Chairman and Members on their appointments, Minister Lee thanked them for their willingness to serve and encouraged them to carry out their duties with integrity, transparency, accountability and a steadfast commitment to the public interest.
Minister Lee also recognized the dedicated staff of SILWC, noting that their professionalism and commitment throughout the period of transition ensured the continued operation of the organisation. On behalf of the Ministry, he thanked them for their service and expressed confidence in their continued support of the newly appointed Committee.
Mr. David Ramkissoon, Acting Secretary/Executive Officer of the SILWC, also reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with the Board.
The newly appointed Committee comprises Chairman Mr. Richard Sukdeo and Members Mr. Shivanand Ramnarine, Mr. Anthony Ramsahai, Ms. Nesha Abiraj, Mr. Adesh Ramnarace, Mr. Justin Gosine and Mr. Latchmi Narine Ramdhan.
SILWC continues to administer programmes and address matters arising from its longstanding responsibility to the sugar worker community. The newly appointed Board will provide oversight and strategic direction as the Committee carries out its mandate in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing.
