Chaguanas East Back-to-School Drive Supports 40 Students

Forty children in Chaguanas East are receiving support ahead of the new academic year, with more than $54,000 spent on providing their full booklists.

The initiative forms part of the constituency’s annual back-to-school drive, aimed at easing the financial burden on families while encouraging students to approach the new academic year with confidence, focus and determination.

“Our children need more than books and uniform. They need us. They need encouragement, guidance, discipline, and someone to ask the simple question, how was school today?”

These words from Member of Parliament for Chaguanas East, Vandana Mohit, underscore a call for parents to take a more active role in their children’s education and development.

Speaking at the constituency’s annual back-to-school drive, she stressed that parental support extends beyond providing school supplies and includes offering guidance, encouragement and emotional support.

She also encouraged parents to nurture their children’s self-confidence by speaking positively into their lives.

“Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a child is simply knowing that someone believes in them. So speak positively into the lives of your children. Tell them they are capable. Tell them they can succeed. Correct them when necessary. Guide them with love, and continue to remind them that education remains one of the strongest foundations upon which they can build their lives.”

A total of 40 students benefited from the Chaguanas East back-to-school initiative, receiving complete booklists valued at more than $54,000.

The young recipients also shared words of encouragement, urging students to remain focused, pay attention in class and give their best effort.

“Try your best, I mean academics it will help you to get somewhere and you know make your parents proud, they’re looking forward for everything for you. They want the best for you.”

MP Mohit closed by emphasising the importance of investing in young people, saying the encouragement they receive today can help shape the leaders of tomorrow.

“Every child we encourage today can become a leader tomorrow. Every young mind we strengthen today can help build a stronger nation tomorrow. And that is why our watchwords here in the constituency of Chaguanas East remain so important. Live, work, and grow.”

As the new academic school year approaches, students are being encouraged to stay focused, work hard and make the most of every opportunity.
