On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 7:55 a.m. information was received that contraband items had been thrown over the perimeter wall along Gordon Street into the Remand Airing Yard at the Port of Spain Prison.
Officers responded promptly and conducted checks of the area, resulting in the recovery and confiscation of a package containing the following prohibited articles:
– Ten (10) packs of L&M cigarettes;
– Twenty (20) packs of Du Maurier cigarettes;
– One (1) cellular phone;
– One (1) wireless headset;
– One (1) charging cable; and
– A quantity of plant-like material resembling that of marijuana.
The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service continues to maintain heightened vigilance and remains committed to preventing the introduction of prohibited articles into its prisons. The incident highlights the persistent attempts by individuals to circumvent prison security measures and introduce contraband for the benefit of inmates.
Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.) Mr. Elvin Scanterbury commended the officers involved for their vigilance, professionalism and unwavering commitment to maintaining the safety and security of the nation’s prisons.
The TTPrS reiterates to the public that bringing, throwing, conveying, or causing a prohibited article to be supplied to a prisoner, or introducing a prohibited article by any means into a prison, constitutes a serious offence. Members of the public are therefore strongly cautioned against engaging in such activities, as persons found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
