Brooklyn is set to make history this weekend with the staging of its first-ever Trinidad and Tobago Independence Day Parade.
On Sunday, August 30th, Flatbush Avenue will come alive with the sights and sounds of Trinidad and Tobago as thousands of revellers, cultural groups and community members make their way from Church Avenue to Prospect Park. The celebration will feature steelpan music, soca rhythms, Caribbean cuisine and a vibrant display of national pride under the theme “Our Culture. Our People. Our Freedom.”
The event takes place just one day before Trinidad and Tobago marks its 64th anniversary of Independence, adding special significance to the historic occasion.
Community leaders say the addition of a Trinidad and Tobago Independence Parade reflects the strength and influence of the Caribbean diaspora and its continuing contributions to the cultural fabric of Brooklyn.
