Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) has finalised plans for a direct flight from Toronto to Tobago.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine made the revelation following a meeting with the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited and CAL.
The Chief Secretary hinted that the service will begin after the opening of the new ANR Robinson Airport terminal, which is expected to open within the next few weeks.
“So we have a date for the beginning of a direct flight from Toronto, and immediately Caribbean Airlines will onboard a schedule that will take us past Tobago Carnival, all the way past the National Carnival next year in one go so those flights will be there.”
After the commencement of the Toronto-to-Tobago flight, Mr Augustine stated that direct flights to Ogle, Guyana, and Miami, USA, will be the next flights to secure.
This comes days after Caribbean Airlines announced plans to discontinue direct flights between Barbados and Tobago due to ongoing schedule optimisation.
“I think part of the thinking was that visitors will transition through Barbados as a hub coming from international destinations and using Barbados as a hub to get to Tobago, but that does not always work. Sometimes visitors just want a direct flight to a place as opposed to having to stop two and three times.”
