Officers attached to the Port of Spain Prison thwarted an attempt to smuggle contraband into the facility on Thursday morning, leading to the apprehension of a suspect and the seizure of several prohibited items.
According to the Prison Officers’ Association of Trinidad and Tobago (POATT), officers apprehended a suspect who was allegedly attempting to throw packages into the prison compound. The packages contained more than 100 cigarettes, a quantity of marijuana and a cellular phone.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service was immediately contacted, and the suspect was handed over to police for further investigation.
POATT praised the vigilance and professionalism of the officers, noting that their actions prevented prohibited items from entering the prison. The association also highlighted the ongoing efforts of prison officers to safeguard correctional facilities and maintain security.
