The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has continued its intervention at the San Juan North Secondary School, with the Victim and Witness Support Unit (VWSU) providing psychosocial support to members of staff following the recent assault and robbery of a teacher on the school compound.
On Monday 21st September, 2026, the VWSU conducted a debriefing session with 30 members of staff, providing them with an opportunity to discuss their concerns, process the impact of the incident and access professional psychosocial support.
The intervention follows a series of engagements involving the TTPS, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Homeland Security and other stakeholders aimed at addressing both the welfare of persons affected by the incident and security concerns at the school.
During the VWSU engagement, two sub-teams facilitated sessions with staff, including members of the school’s senior staff, creating a supportive environment in which participants could openly discuss their concerns and receive guidance and support.
The VWSU team comprised Assistant Head of Social Support, Mr Kirk Pierre; Supervisor, Operations, Ms Janelle Sebastien-Reyes; and Victim and Witness Support Officers Bianca Augustus, Jamiyla Sargeant, Ancil Winchester, Kimeco Fletcher-Chase and Latoya Lewis.
The principal and staff expressed appreciation for the intervention and indicated an interest in a follow-up session, as the TTPS continues to make its support services available to the school community.
This latest intervention forms part of the wider response initiated following the incident. Last week, TTPS and partner agencies engaged school officials on measures to strengthen security at the compound, including improved lighting, repairs to perimeter fencing, the installation of CCTV cameras and the clearance of thick undergrowth to improve visibility around the school.
