Police are currently investigating a police-involved shooting which occurred during the early hours of Monday 21st September, 2026, at the Military Museum, Western Main Road, Chaguaramas.
According to initial reports, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Ag. Sgt Garcia, PC Rogers and PC Narine responded to a report of men on the premises of the Military Museum.
Upon arrival, the officers encountered three persons, two males and one female on the south-eastern side of the compound. Initial information indicates that during the encounter, one of the males came through a gate and allegedly lunged at the officers while holding a knife. In response to the perceived threat, one of the officers discharged his service firearm, striking the male suspects.
Both male suspects were taken for medical treatment. One of the men, subsequently identified as 24-year-old Darion Patterson, later succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
The second male suspect, aged 17, was treated for his injuries at the St James Infirmary and then transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital. While the 17-year-old female who was detained in connection with the incident was conveyed to the St Clair Booking Centre.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the police-involved shooting are continuing under the direction of Ag. ASP Phillip.
