The Ministry of Education recognised two hundred and twelve (212) early-career teachers at a graduation ceremony on Tuesday 22 September 2026, marking their successful completion of the Teacher Induction Programme.
This training programme bridges theory and practice equipping early career educators with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to support students in today’s education landscape. In doing so, the Ministry of Education ensures that teachers are prepared to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of students, integrate technology into the learning process and guide their classrooms with confidence.
Dr. The Honourable Micheal R. Dowlath, Minister of Education, delivered the feature address. Minister Dowlath encouraged teachers to be careful stewards of the young minds entering their classrooms. “Every day, a child with a future enters your classroom. That future may arrive confidently or sit quietly at the back of the room. The opportunity to transform a child’s life is both a profound privilege and an enormous responsibility. As early career educators, your task is to recognise possibility and nurture it.”
The graduation ceremony also featured remarks from Dr. Freedy James, Senior Lecture UWI; Dr. Peter Smith, Chief Education Officer; Ms. Marlene Inniss-Joseph, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.) and Dr. Carla Kronberg, Manager Teacher Education, Performance and Professional Development Division. The occasion marked a significant milestone in the graduates’ educational journey, celebrating their dedication, perseverance and successful completion of their studies.
The induction programme plays a key role in strengthening instructional practice and fostering an education system in which every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed. The eight-month programme was delivered online via Microsoft Teams during the 2025–2026 academic year. Such initiatives align closely with the Ministry of Education’s focus on strengthening the education system by supporting the development of a well-prepared teaching workforce equipped to respond effectively to students’ diverse learning needs.
