Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has congratulated India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is marking 25 years of continuous service as a Head of Government, spanning leadership at both the state and national levels.
In a statement on X on Wednesday, Mrs Persad-Bissessar described it as a “truly significant milestone”, noting that Mr Modi began his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7th, 2001, serving in that office until 2014.
In May 2014, he became Prime Minister of India and has continued to serve the country through three consecutive terms.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend my warmest congratulations to my dear friend on this remarkable milestone and wish him continued strength and success in his service.”
Mrs Persad-Bissessar also recalled welcoming Prime Minister Modi to Trinidad and Tobago last year, saying the visit further strengthened the friendship between the two nations and their peoples.
She also highlighted the longstanding ties between Trinidad and Tobago and India, including their shared history, culture and kinship, and thanked Mr Modi for the assistance and support extended to Trinidad and Tobago by his Government and the people of India.
“I especially thank Prime Minister Modi for his friendship and for the generous assistance and support that his Government and the people of India have extended to Trinidad and Tobago. We deeply value India’s partnership and its continued commitment to our nation’s development.”
Mrs Persad-Bissessar said she hopes the enduring friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and India will “continue to grow and flourish for generations to come.”
