National Enterprises Limited Returns To Profit With TT$254M For The Nine Months to June 2026

National Enterprises Limited (NEL) has reported a TT$254 million profit over the nine-month period of its financial year 2026, improving from a TT$185 million loss in the corresponding past period, at its Third Quarter Investors Meeting held at The BRIX in Port of Spain on Friday, 18 September 2026.

Dividend income grew 14 per cent to TT$55.6 million, total assets rose 12 per cent to TT$2.8 billion, and earnings per share improved from a loss of 31 cents to a gain of 42 cents.

The meeting brought together institutional investors, brokers, asset managers, and representatives from the Ministry of Finance Investment Division.

A RETURN TO PROFIT

The nine-month result marks a turnaround from the prior period, driven primarily by a positive fair-value movement of TT$199 million across the strategic portfolio, compared with a fair-value loss of TT$238 million in the same period the year before — a year-on-year swing of approximately TT$437 million. Operating profit was steady at TT$56 million.

WHERE NEL SEES ITSELF NOW

“We see ourselves as a dividend stock. Those will be the litmus tests any new asset will have to pass.”

— Mr. Charles Maynard, General Manager, NEL

Mr. Maynard confirmed that NEL’s next three-year strategic plan is in the final stages of preparation for the new financial year with a focus on identifying assets that combine dividend income with growth potential. The most recent addition to NEL’s strategic portfolio was its 10 per cent stake in The Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago taken in 2014.

THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE TURNAROUND

Manager, Investments and Accounts Ms. Venita Ramlal took investors through the financial position, confirming NEL’s dividend policy: a 90 per cent payout of dividend income received on an annual basis, subject to Board approval. Dividends paid and payable for the financial year to date total TT$132 million. Cash and cash equivalents stood at TT$244 million at 30 June 2026.

A SHIFT IN MARKET ACTIVITY

NEL now records the second-highest trading turnover on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange. Its share price has moved from a low of TT$1.72 in December 2025 to TT$4.56 in September 2026 — an appreciation of approximately 165 per cent over the period.
