Ministry Strengthens Social Support Services With $1.6 Million In NGO Funding

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services has disbursed a combined total of one million, six hundred and thirteen thousand, eight hundred and ninety-one dollars ($1,613,891.00) in Government subventions to three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support the continued delivery of essential services to children, adolescents, women and families.

The recipients are the Child Welfare League of Trinidad and Tobago, Childline Trinidad and Tobago and New Life Ministries Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Women. The funding represents subventions for Quarters 3 and 4 of the 2026 financial year and will assist with administrative and operational expenses, as well as the continuation of their respective programmes.

The disbursements comprise $296,792.00 to the Child Welfare League, $867,099.00 to Childline Trinidad and Tobago, and $450,000.00 to New Life Ministries. The combined disbursement represents an investment not only in the continued operations of these organisations, but also in the children, young people, women and families who depend on their services.

The Ministry recognises the vital role these organisations play in strengthening the national social protection system and providing specialised support to vulnerable populations. Their work complements the Government’s efforts to protect children, empower young people, support women and help individuals overcome challenging circumstances.

Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, lauded the work of the organisations and reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for these initiatives. “Our investment in civil society is an investment in people. Through these partnerships, we are strengthening the support available to our most vulnerable citizens, while ensuring that every public dollar is managed responsibly and translated into meaningful outcomes. Our commitment is clear: to build stronger organisations, improve service delivery and ensure that children, women and families have access to the support they need to move forward,” she stated.

In addition to providing financial support, the Ministry continues to strengthen the accountability and reporting systems governing Government subventions to NGOs. These measures form part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote sound financial management, transparency and accountability while strengthening the capacity of its NGO partners.

The Ministry remains committed to working collaboratively with civil society organisations to expand the reach of social services and ensure that public resources translate into meaningful outcomes for the people they are intended to serve.
