Friends Unite To Honour The Baron At Christmas Benefit Concert

The benefit concert, Baron’s Infinity III: The Christmas Edition, will honour the legacy of kaiso icon Timothy Watkins, known as The Baron, while generating funds to offset some of his expenses in light of his medical complications.

Known for his sweet, infectious, melodious voice, the calypsonian has given Trinidad and Tobago various reasons to dance, smile and laugh with his catchy kaiso and soca parang hits over the decades.

Now, through the benefit concert, fans have the opportunity to give that love back.

In an exclusive interview with TTT News, the calypsonian’s wife, Sherma Orr Watkins, explained the cause behind the show.

“He is, as everybody knows, he’s not well right now and the expenses per month is like $10,000, $12,000 per month so we’re looking to raise funds. So talking to one or two calypsonians, they said ‘Sherma we doing that, it’s Baron, Baron have to live, and have to live happy and comfortable’ so they decide yes we will do a show, just call the date, so I went and look for venues and this kind of thing, we came up with the 8th of November.”

The concert will feature several well-known calypsonians, all friends of The Baron, including Gypsy, Sugar Aloes and Zachary Ransome.

The cast’s sole mission is to honour the artiste and celebrate his legacy.

“Every artist on the show is doing Baron songs only. Baron songs alone will be done which is his calypsos, his Soca parang, his ballads everything that he did, alone. The only other song that will be included Sugar Aloes doing ‘Don’t Mistake Me For Baron’. Gypsy, everybody doing one or two of Baron’s songs.”

She also could not guarantee that the “Sweet Soca Man” would stay away from the microphone on the night.

“I am saying he’s not performing but he will perform because knowing him right now he’s there in the bedroom and every two minutes as the music plays he’s singing so I know he will be performing. So everybody come out and see him see him perform and you know that kind of thing.”

The concert will be held on Sunday, November 8th, at the Bishop Anstey High School East and Trinity College East hall.
