The current status of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) board is before the Cabinet and will be dealt with in a short time.
This assurance comes from Minister of Health Dr Lackram Bodoe who says the delivery of service to patients continue uninterrupted.
Speaking on TTT’s FOCUS morning show, Minister of Health Dr Lackram Bodoe says despite ongoing media reports about the state of the South West Regional Health Authority Board, he assured the public work continues and services remain unaffected.
“I want to give the assurance to the population that despite what is being bandied about by the media, that there is no collapse of any board at the SWRHA and I want the population to reflect that when a government changes and this would have happened… I was the chairman of the SWRHA in 2015, the PP government won the election in May of 2015 and the SWRHA Board at that time was appointed in November of 2015. So there was a gap of a few months, and government is entitled to a gap of a few months to determine, select the right people for boards and so on.”
Responding to concerns, the Health Minister explained the Chief Executive Officer continues the work of the Regional Health Authority and reports to the Permanent Secretary. The Minister said his role includes providing policy guidance and direction, ensuring the work continues for the benefit of the people.
“Whatever is being said in the public domain about a board collapse and what will happen. The sky is not falling. The work will continue, the issue of SWRHA board is before the Cabinet and I’m sure that will be dealt with in a short time.”
Dr Bodoe assured that patient service delivery will not be impacted.
