Wood Manufacturing Apprenticeship Launched

A new apprenticeship programme focused on manufacturing wood and wood products was launched on Tuesday.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, said there’s nothing more important than empowering the nation’s youthful human resource. Besides this, the Minister went on to indicate that the levels of revenues to be made in the wood manufacturing industry have drawn Government financial interest in this sector.

With the Central Statistical Office listing the wood industry as contributing .02% to the county’s GDP and bringing in TT$24 million in exports, the Minister says that it is a sub sector brimming with potential.

The training Wood Manufacturing Apprenticeship has been fully structured to encourage periods alternating between work and training. Mrs. Gopee-Scoon says this makes for better work opportunities for the graduates and expands their career potential.
