Asa Wright Nature Centre And Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel Achieve Green Key Status

HADCO Experiences celebrated a significant milestone as they received Green Key Certification for two of their eco-lodges, the Asa Wright Nature Centre and the Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel.

Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism Satyakama Maharaj congratulated HADCO Experiences for obtaining Green Key Certification. He said this represents not only a win for the company but also for Trinidad and Tobago.

“The Green Key Award represents the highest global standard for environmental responsibility in tourism, with more than 8,000 certified establishments across 60 countries. This is a big deal, ladies and gentlemen. Your work strengthens our tourism industry, protects our natural assets, and demonstrates that Trinidad and Tobago is ready to lead in sustainable development.”

As he presented the certificates to the company, Director of Green T&T, Willard Harris, said the citations are more than just symbols.

“They represent consistency or consistent action, strong environmental management, and a deep respect for the natural heritage that sustains our tourism industry. HADCO Experiences have demonstrated that sustainability is not an add-on. It is embedded in the core of its operations.”

Group co-CEO of HADCO, John Hadad, also recognised Asa Wright for being listed in the top 25 select boutique hotels in the Caribbean, according to international standards.

“While I was downstairs preparing my final notes, I got a notice, an email from the UK saying that the UK Times, the Times of London, just published an independent 25 select boutique hotels in the Caribbean. Their top 25 and Asa Wright Nature Centre made it in the top 25. So, thank you and I think there’s a sense of pride on the whole team’s part seeing that.”

The Green Key certificate is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation across the tourism industry.
