Captain Don Polo Appointed Chief Of Defence Staff

Captain Don Polo has been appointed Chief of Defence Staff of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.

A statement from the Ministry of Defence said the appointment was made on October 7th, following consultations between the Minister of Defence, Wayne Sturge, and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, in accordance with Section 191 of the Defence Act, Chap. 14:01.

President Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, as Commander of the Armed Forces, acted on the advice to confirm the new appointment.

The Ministry said on the same day, and in accordance with Section 12 of the Defence Act, Minister Sturge had advised the President to revoke the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Darryl Daniel, who had served as Chief of Defence Staff for an unprecedented eight years.

“The instrument of revocation as well as the instrument of appointment were both served, by the Minister of Defence on the aforementioned officers shortly after 8PM at the Temple Court Office of the Ministry of Defence. The Minister of Defence thanked Air Vice Marshall Daniel for his unprecedented 8-year stint as Chief of Defence Staff.

The decision to bring an end to the service of Air Vice Marshal Daniel at this juncture was made after lengthy deliberations and mature consideration and will in no way adversely affect the operational effectiveness of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.”
