Chicken Pox Outbreak At Maximum Security Prison

Twenty-nine inmates are actively being treated for Chicken Pox at the Maximum Security Prison.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service released a statement on Saturday informing the public and all relevant stakeholders of the presence of the varicella virus (Chicken Pox) among the inmate population.

They said following the detection of the first recorded case on November 11, 2025, medical intervention and oversight was guided to manage and contain the situation.

Over the sixty-one days period, there have been seventy-two cases of inmates and seven officers contracting the chicken pox.

Forty-three inmates have been discharged and placed back into the general inmate population.

The prison service is assuring that they remain remains committed to maintaining a healthy environment and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
