Another cargo vessel is en route to Trinidad and Tobago.
During a political meeting in Bethesda on Monday, Tobago People’s Party (TPP) Political Leader Farley Augustine announced that the MV Blue Harmony is expected to be brought on as the Cabo Star’s lease expires on January 12th, 2026.
Reading from a letter sent to him dated January 5th, 2025, Mr. Augustine announced that arrangements have been put in place.
“In this regard, the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited or NIDCO has entered into an agreement with the Panamanian ship owners Trading Abroad S.A. to lease the MV Blue Wave Harmony for an initial period of 12 months. During this period, the government will continue its efforts towards a permanent acquisition of a dedicated cargo vessel for the inter-island sea route.”
Mr. Augustine informed that the vessel is already en route to Port of Spain.
“The MV Blue Wave Harmony has already, already departed Egypt and is en route to the Port of Port of Spain in time to commence operations as scheduled. Fair weather conditions excepted.”
The letter added that, as a precaution, contingency arrangements have been established with the Port Authority for the increased utilisation of the T&T Spirit and the Galleons Passage in the event of any unexpected delay.
According to Mr. Augustine, the new vessel was selected with Tobagonians in mind, as he outlined its amenities and features.
“We have increased cargo capacity, meaning it could carry more load. Expanded refrigerated cargo capacity, it could carry more cold things, larger cold storage. Heavier duty loading ramps suitable for specialised and heavy cargo, and improved operational reliability through increased engine redundancy. Additionally, the vessel provides upgraded passenger comfort, including cabins, in other words, you are getting more cabins than the five you had, and I am advised it will be somewhere in the vicinity of 100 cabins.”
The letter explained that the MV Blue Harmony also includes improved seating and dining, as well as modern onboard amenities.
