The Political Leader of the Tobago People’s Party (TPP), Farley Augustine, said the party’s victory in Tobago will change the future for the people on the island.
The TPP won in both Tobago East and West, with their candidates David Thomas and Joel Sampson securing the seats in Monday’s General Election.
As he delivered his victory speech on Monday night, Mr. Augustine said the win will be very important for the people of Tobago.
“Our focus was not so much on being in a Cabinet but our focus was being in a Parliament, to be able to advocate and say the right things and to negotiate on behalf of the people of Tobago, and I believe that we have an extremely strong negotiating point starting tomorrow morning.”
Mr. Augustine said during his walkabouts prior to the election, he took note of the issues raised by the electorate. He promised that those issues would be addressed in the coming months.
“When I look around the global space and look at what’s happening with sweeping tariffs, with a plunging global economy, with wars in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine, disruption of global trade and logistical nightmares to get stuff moving around the world, really and truly we have to become one Trinidad and Tobago to weather the storm that is approaching.”
