The Trinidad and Tobago government has appointed a new Board of Directors for the Export Import Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (EximBank), signaling a renewed focus on strengthening the country’s non-energy export sectors and economic diversification efforts.
The five-member board was formally installed during a ceremony held Thursday at the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism headquarters in Port of Spain, with Minister Satyakama Maharaj.
The newly appointed board, which will serve a two-year term, includes:
- Edwin Chariah as Chairman
- Suresh Maharaj as Deputy Chairman
- Nandini Narine as Director
- Dr. Bhushan Singh as Director
- Joseph Ridge Paul as Director
The appointment ceremony was attended by key government officials including Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism; Dr. Colin Neil Gosine, Parliamentary Secretary; and Acting Permanent Secretary Ms. Abigail Bynoe, along with senior ministry officials.
During his address to the new appointees, Minister Maharaj highlighted EximBank’s “pivotal role in facilitating the growth and expansion of Trinidad and Tobago’s non-energy export and manufacturing sectors.” The minister outlined several key objectives for the institution under new leadership, including enhancing foreign exchange earnings, creating and sustaining employment opportunities, and empowering the local exporting community through expanded trade finance services.
