MOWT: Highway Project Eases Traffic Flow

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan has commended the work being undertaken to improve traffic flow on the Uriah Butler Highway, despite some inconvenience to motorists.

The multi-phase project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion between Chaguanas and San Fernando has just seen the completion of the Chaguanas to Chase Village phase.

The Minister said: “We did promise, by the end of February we would deliver, and the project was delivered at the end of February so, we apologise for the inconvenience during the time of construction. Unfortunately, that could not really be helped but now we have delivered and, as you can see, there’s a free flow of traffic.”

Acknowledging that inclement weather and other factors delayed the project, the Minister said he is pleased with the positive impact that its completion has brought. However, he noted that the plans for improving traffic flow in the area are not limited to the highway project.

“The next phase of this Chaguanas traffic alleviation will be a roundabout at Endeavour. What that will do, it will ease the traffic that moves through Chaguanas from east to west, and it will give easier access to get in and out of Chaguanas. It’s a five-phase project – that will be the fourth phase.”

Minister Sinanan said the development of the Borough of Chaguanas has outpaced the infrastructure of the area, and these projects are necessary to aid in improving the situation.
