New Fees for Firearm User Licences Take Effect January 2026

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has announced changes to fees for Firearm User Licences and related permits, which came into effect on January 1st, 2026.

Commissioner of Police A. Guevarro advised the public that, pursuant to Legal Notice No. 489 of 2025, the Minister of Homeland Security has made amendments to the Firearms Regulations under the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:01.

The amended regulations affect the fees payable for Firearm User Licences and other related licences, certificates, and permits. The new fee structure, outlined in the Third Schedule (Regulation 19), includes:

  • Standard Firearm User’s Licence: $600.00
  • Firearm User’s Licence (Member of Rifle Association with Presidential approval): $80.00
  • Firearm User’s Licence (Shotgun): $480.00
  • Renewal of Firearm User’s Licence: $1,000.00
  • Firearm User’s (Employee’s) Certificate: $320.00
  • Firearm User’s (Employee’s) Certificate (Shotgun): $200.00
  • Firearm User’s (Employee’s) Certificate (Revenue Officer or other public officer): No fee
  • Firearm Dealer’s Licence: $2,000.00
  • Gunsmith’s Licence: $400.00
  • Firearm Disposal Permit: No fee
  • Firearm Import Permit (per firearm): $20.00
  • Permit to take firearm abroad (per firearm): $20.00
  • Variation of Licence, Certificate or Permit: $40.00
  • Permit under section 7(2) of the Act: No fee
  • Pepper Spray Import Permit: $200.00
  • Pepper Spray Permit: $200.00
  • Duplicate copy of any Licence, Certificate or Permit: $80.00
