Incoming Arima MP Pennelope Beckles has been chosen as the PNM’s Opposition Leader following Wednesday’s PNM General Council Meeting.
PNM General Secretary Foster Cummings made the announcement following the meeting.
Mrs. Beckles-Robinson had earlier indicated her willingness to be appointed Leader of the Opposition.
According to a media release from the People’s National Movement earlier in the day, six elected PNM Members of Parliament, after careful and mature consideration of the outcome of the April 28th, 2025 General Election and the events that preceded the snap election, decided it was in the best interest of the PNM to select Mrs. Beckles-Robinson as the Leader of the Opposition. Those members were Symon de Nobriga, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Marvin Gonzales, Colm Imbert, Kareem Marcelle, and Keith Scotland.
Mrs. Beckles-Robinson later received the support of other elected PNM MPs.
