Police are investigating the suspected drowning of an elderly man in Tobago.
According to reports, 83-year-old Godwin Williams of Riseland Trace in Carnbee, known to be a frequent beachgoer, entered the water at Mt. Irvine Beach around 3pm on Monday.
Sometime later, he was discovered face down in the water.
Onlookers pulled him ashore and attempted CPR, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Emergency responders were contacted, but Mr. Williams showed no signs of life.
He was subsequently pronounced dead by a District Medical Officer.
Police say no foul play is suspected.
