‘Solo Creed’ Arrested

The vessel ‘Solo Creed,’ responsible for the February 2024 Tobago oil spill, has been arrested.

This was confirmed via a media release by the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries on Thursday.

The arrest was ordered by the Court to allow the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to protect the fruits of its claim to recover over $244 million. This sum is a preliminary figure since the full costs of this spill continue to be tabulated.

The tug Solo Creed was ordered to be arrested in Luanda, Angola and consequently will not be allowed to leave that jurisdiction unless security is lodged to secure the interest of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

On February 7th, 2024, an oil spill from the barge ‘Gulf Stream’ off the coast of Tobago resulted in significant damage to both the local community’s livelihoods and the surrounding environment.
